- Rated 2 out of 5by DevourerOS, 5 days agoI used to love ProtonVPN extension. It was quick and easy. However, now it is a nightmare. It started with the last version causing issues where you had to disable it and reopen the browser, but only on Linux. Well now, even if you disable it, it will lock your browser up and refresh the page every 30 seconds, on Windows and Linux. You have to completely disable and remove it, then go into the folder and delete the xpi in order to use your Firefox. I spent hours trying to place the blame on anything else. Even doing the Firefox troubleshooting where it disables the extensions did not stop this problem. Only completely removing the xpi and setting for it would stop this. I don't know what is going on over there, but I'm sure that you all should revert some of the changes you have been making, since version 1.3.x, would fix these issues. The nag pop-up for rating is horrible, and it doesn't matter if we had rated it or not. There should be a leave me alone box.
Edited, for typos and clarity.
Update: Reinstalled 1.2.16 and the issues with the lockup and reload and forgot to add that just opening the browser without loading a page would cause it to just use up all RAM in the system over about a 5 to 10 minute window. You could just sit there and watch it keep climbing.Developer response
posted 5 days agoSorry to hear that. Could you share more details about the issue? Does it perhaps occur after rebooting your device? Are you receiving any error messages? Which Proton VPN extension version and Firefox version do you have installed? Please contact us at https://protonvpn.com/support/contact so we can have a better understanding of the issue and help you troubleshoot. - Rated 2 out of 5by Fox12, 6 days agoThe extension works fine, but suddenly it stops working; it says ‘network issue’ and I can't log out of my account or the VPN because the extension is somehow ‘frozen’ – I can't open the extension or its settings... Only by disabling the extension can I browse properly again.
I tried reinstalling the extension, but the same thing happened after a few minutes.
A temporary solution I’ve found is to disable the “connect automatically” option and to disable and re-enable the extension when it “freezes” and displays a connection error.Developer response

Meanwhile, we’ve documented your report accordingly. - Rated 2 out of 5by Firefox user 13594626, 10 days agoI love the service, but the extension is incredibly unreliable. Any time I try to set up a new connection, the entire browser locks up for tens of seconds. The connection drops off occasionally, to which the only fix is to disable then enable the extension, then wait for the browser to be responsive again.

I mainly used proton to unblock netflix, but now it doesn't work with netflix, so I don't use it anymore. if it starts working again, I'll come back and rate it 4 stars

When you want to bypass your country's censorship the last thing you want is a default connection to servers in your country. Yes, you can manually change it, but this rather undercuts the purpose and convenience that auto-connect brings. Fastest connection to not my country is in the desktop app and I want to see it here too.

Sometimes it even needs the browser to be restarted. Encountered it already on the first day I started to use it, contacted CS, and learnt that everything was fine.
Other annoyances: requesting every few weeks to write a review. - Rated 2 out of 5by idontknow651, 5 months agoI think a VPN extension only really needs ONE feature: quick-connect to a previously favorited country.
It is ridiculous that ProtonVPN does not have this.
I would take ANYTHING:
- A way to pin/favorite countries or servers
- A second button next to Connect that
- An option in the settings for what happens when I left click the extension
- create a hotkey to auto-connect to my favorites
I've only ever EVER used it to connect to a different country. But if I don't manually choose it in the list, then it will choose MINE. Why?! It's basically useless.
And I specifically only ever use Japan 99% of the time, and the US in the remaining 1%.
(I suspect a great majority of people use it similarly. Mostly one country.)
Both of which—because the list is in alphabetic order—I literally cannot even simply scroll down to!
Japan takes about 4 wheel turns, and the US takes 8.
So, evidently, I instead search for them. Just typing J or U is enough.
And THANKFULLY the search input is automatically focused. This is why the app gets 2 stars, not 1.Developer response
posted 4 months agoSorry to hear that. The default Connect option will connect you to the fastest available server for you, which is often one that's closer to your actual location. That said, although the option to favorite servers or countries is not available at the moment, we've added your vote to the existing feature request so the team can prioritize it accordingly. You can follow our blog and our direct channels for any news and updates. - Rated 2 out of 5by Snoozer, 5 months agoGreat when it works. I constantly lose connection when trying to stream content on my browser. When I disconnect from the extension I have no connection issues. I have two server locations close to me and I try to switch when my connection slows down. But, this doesn't seem to help.

Tech support wants pics & all the hairy details to solve simple, common problems. With every biz wanting fee for service, the public is getting nickled & dimed to death to give a CEO gas for their Bentley!

posted 6 months agoThat doesn't sound right. The extension affects your browser only, and not your entire system. That said, would you mind sharing your ticket number with us here? the issue is it automatically connects you to a server, they say it use the fastest one but actually its random. for me for example netherland and romani servers works good but it auto connects me randomly to USA and Poland which do not work so i have to press the change btn a lot of times to randomly get netherland or romani. the system actually sucks it didnt used to be this wayDeveloper response
posted 8 months agoThe default Quick connect option will connect you to the fastest available server for you. This leads to better load balancing and higher speed, which is a priority for free users. If you'd like to connect to a specific server in a country of your choice, you may consider upgrading your plan.
That said, can you let us know what exactly doesn't work when connected to our free US and Poland servers? Contact us with more details by clicking on Help in the Proton VPN extension, then selecting 'Contact us' so we can assist you further. Developer response

Therefore those Proxies are no longer available. The Proton VPN Firefox Extension could do a self check and provide better user experience in these situations. Does Proton doesn't have an automatic Flow at their servers?
- Rated 2 out of 5by kurzakko, a year agoЗапускается один раз, дальше просто скидывает и выдает ошибку.

Unfortunately it very frequently fails to connect, or will say it's connected but you can't actually load any web pages. Sometimes the extension itself will even say that it is having trouble connecting and needs to be reinstalled which does work...until the same problem happens all over again. If it weren't for the reliability issues it would be an easy 4-star extension, with the 5th star being reserved for feature-parity with the mobile and desktop apps.

This is a major issue for anyone looking to maintain their privacy on-the-go.
If I were to use a VPN app that connects me to my home server, I wouldn't have the option of using the native Proton VPN client as well.
The lack of mobile support for this extension is a serious issue.Developer response

Since then it has done nothing but block all connections in Firefox, while other browsers work flawlessly with the same sites at the same time.
Disconnecting and reconnecting accomplishes nothing. I can't use this.Developer response
