About this extension

BookmarkIsAlive is a Firefox add-on that quietly finds dead links in your bookmark collection and organizes them — without deleting anything. Unlike typical "broken link checkers" that scan everything in a few aggressive minutes, BookmarkIsAlive runs as a long-lived background process with hard rate limits: by default at most a few requests per minute in total and at most one request per hour to the same domain, so it never hammers any server.

If something goes wrong: restoring your bookmarks from a Firefox backup

This add-on never deletes bookmarks — dead ones are only moved under a BookmarkIsAlive/ folder. If you still want to undo everything (or you accidentally classified bookmarks while testing), Firefox keeps automatic daily backups you can restore from in one step.

Open the Library: Bookmarks menu → "Manage bookmarks..." (shortcut: Ctrl+Shift+O / Cmd+Shift+O).
Click the "Import and Backup" toolbar button (star + arrow icon).
Choose "Restore" and pick either a dated automatic backup, or "Choose File..." to load a .jsonlz4 / .json file.
Confirm — your entire bookmark tree is replaced with the chosen backup.

Firefox's automatic backups live in your profile's bookmarkbackups/ directory:

Windows: %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\bookmarkbackups\
macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/<profile>/bookmarkbackups/
Linux: ~/.mozilla/firefox/<profile>/bookmarkbackups/

Up to 15 daily snapshots are retained by default (about:config → browser.bookmarks.max_backups).
